By Foot and by Bike
The California Bicycle Summit is in a walkable neighborhood. There are many choices of hotels within a 10-minute walk of all summit venues. The Thursday and Friday events are practically adjacent to the 19th St. BART station.
It’s also an easy bike ride from most parts of the East Bay. Use Google’s bikeway layer for a nearly accurate depiction of the bike facilities leading to the venue, except that Telegraph Avenue has continuous bike lanes from the venue to 51st Street. We have reported the error to Google, Inc.
Bike Parking
Valet bike parking will be provided by the Uptown Bike Station at 1775 Broadway, just up the block from OakStop on Telegraph. The hours of the Bike Station are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on weekdays. The Bike Station will stay open until 8 pm on Thursday, April 7, to allow Summit attendees to get their bikes after the evening event.
Please note that the breakfast plenary on Thursday is at the California Ballroom, about a 5-minute walk from the bike parking. It’s a good idea to plan to park your bike a bit early, since there may be a line to get checked in at the Bike Station.
Be aware that Oakland’s bike thieves are talented, so we recommend using the valet bike parking. Only park your bike on the street if you are savvy about security.
By Local Transit
If you’re coming from farther away, you have many transit options, especially if you combine transit with a bike.
The BART system allows bikes on any car except the first car. The Red, Orange, and Yellow lines stop at the 19th Street station, with frequent trains every 10-20 minutes during weekdays. If you’re taking the Blue or Green line, transfer at West Oakland or Lake Merritt. BART is the best way to connect from the Oakland or San Francisco airport to the Summit.
Ferries between San Francisco and Oakland’s Jack London Square allow bikes and provide a beautiful way to cross the bay. Ferries are infrequent, but the first ferry of the weekday arrives in Oakland in time to pedal to the California Ballroom for the opening session.
The summit is conveniently located at a hub for AC Transit, the East Bay’s main bus system. All AC Transit buses allow bikes, but capacity is limited.
If you want to use bike- or scooter-share, there are multiple Bay Wheels bike-share docks within an easy walk of OakStop. You can often find shared scooters outside the BART entrance on 19th Street.
By Regional Transit
Coming from outside the Bay Area, Amtrak may be a great option. Trains stop at Oakland’s Jack London Square, about one mile from the conference venue. Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor provides regular service from Sacramento and San Jose with connecting buses throughout northern California. The San Joaquin line provides regular service between Bakersfield and Oakland, with connecting buses throughout the region including to Los Angeles. The trains and buses of both lines allow unboxed bikes. Use code V530 for 30% off Capitol Corridor tickets; code V316 will save you 30% on San Joaquin line tickets. The Coast Starlight service provides a slow but beautiful daily train in each direction between Seattle and Los Angeles. Bikes must be checked as luggage.
Greyhound is also a convenient choice for summit participants. Its Oakland station is less than a half-mile from the summit venue.

Please note that any Bay Area hotel close to a BART station on the Red, Orange, or Yellow lines will be relatively convenient to the summit venues. Downtown San Francisco, Richmond, San Leandro, and Concord are each about 20 minutes away by BART.

COVID Policy for the 2022 California Bicycle Summit
Under guidelines adopted by the City of Oakland, all attendees at the California Bicycle Summit must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
Please be prepared to show proof of vaccination along with a photo ID when you check in at the registration table. You can present your paper card, a photo of your card, or a digital COVID vaccine card from the State of California or another state.
In accordance with California Dept of Public Health guidance, masks are strongly recommended for all persons, regardless of vaccine status, in indoor public settings and businesses (examples: retail, restaurants, theaters, family entertainment centers, meetings, state and local government offices serving the public). Surgical masks or higher-level respirators (e.g., N95s, KN95s, KF94s) with good fit are highly recommended for use throughout the event.
