Tell Your Senator to Support the Bike Parking Bill

Special Note for Constituents: If you live in Senate District 2 (Marin, Sonoma, and counties north), your voice is especially important as a constituent of Senator Mike McGuire’s. Please send in an actual letter to support AB 3153. It’s easy. Just download the letter (click here to download a sample letter), add your name, and deliver it to the Committee using this “Position Letter Portal.”  You’ll have to create an account which will take about one minute. It’s not as easy as a click-and-send email, but I promise you it’s much more effective, and it really does just take about two minutes. Thank you! You’re making a difference.

Dero-bike parking room

The California Senate could hold its first hearing on the Bike Parking Bill (AB 3153-Rivas) as early as August 1, 2020. The bill provides an incentive to build long-term bike parking and car-sharing spaces in new buildings.

We need your help to get AB 3153, the Bike Parking Bill, through the Senate.

In most communities in California, housing developers are required to include lots of car parking but no bike parking. That’s bad for the residents, especially low-income people who don’t own a car. That’s bad for the environment, because it subsidizes car use at the expense of bicycling.

We can change that for thousands of buildings across the state if we pass the AB 3153. Modeled on existing ordinances in some cities, it provides a powerful incentive for developers to do the right thing.

Your calls helped us pass this important legislation in the Assembly. Now we need your emails to help get it through the Senate.
