The California Assembly will vote on AB 3153 Monday June 8. The bill provides an incentive to build long-term bike parking and car-sharing spaces in new buildings.
In most communities in California, housing developers are required to include lots of car parking but no bike parking. That’s bad for the residents, especially low-income people who don’t own a car. That’s bad for the environment, because it subsidizes car use at the expense of bicycling.
We can change that for thousands of buildings across the state if we pass AB 3153 (R. Rivas). This bill will allow developers to reduce the amount of car parking if they build bike parking instead. Modeled on existing ordinances in some cities, it provides a powerful incentive for developers to do the right thing.
The vote is Monday, June 8. Call today to urge your assembly member to vote support AB 3153.
