Thanks to the enactment of AB 902 in 2015, local police departments in California may now create a ticket diversion program for people cited for violation of traffic safety laws while riding a bicycle. Such programs can provide much-needed safety education to people who bike, relieve individuals from the burden of hefty fines, and strengthen positive relationships between police, the public, and advocacy organizations.
