FAQs

What is the California Dream Ride?

    • Our 2021 Dream Ride events will bring the spirit and energy of the annual California Dream Ride right to your front door. Join us and come together with your bicycling community online to inspire and motivate each other, and to share the joy of bicycling in a brand-new way. Over the course of three events in 2021, you’ll enjoy self-guided bicycle scavenger hunts, bike riding and fundraising challenges, and online meet-ups with cyclists across the state as we raise money and awareness to support CalBike’s work.

What is the difference between the Dream Ride Experiences and the Dream Ride Challenge?

    • Dream Ride Experiences are weekend events featuring self-guided bicycle scavenger hunts and activity challenges. Discover your local community, take part in bicycle advocacy activities, and meet up online during these exciting weekend-long events. In October, we’ll host the Dream Ride Challenge, 10-days of deep community building, connection and bicycling and fundraising challenges. The program will include self-guided rides, virtual events, meet and greets with movers and shakers of the biking community, special guests, and exceptional giveaways.

When are this year’s Dream Ride events happening?

    • Our first event, the Dream Ride Summer Extravaganza, will happen from June 10-13, 2021. The Dream Ride Summer Scavenger Hunt will happen from August 26-29, 2021. The 10-day Dream Ride Challenge will return October 14-24, 2021.

How do I participate in Dream Ride events?

    • Participating in Dream Ride events is simple. Build your own Dream Ride bike route, wherever you are, ride on your own time, and raise funds and awareness for CalBike’s work in 2021 and beyond. These events will challenge you to get out and ride your bike, and take on additional fundraising challenges and fun bicycle-related activities. You’ll be able to report your miles and come together online throughout the event to connect and share with fellow riders. Best of all, you’ll be raising money and awareness to make California’s communities healthier, stronger, and more equitable—through bicycling!

How do I fundraise to support CalBike during Dream Ride events?

    • When you register for a Dream Ride event, you’ll have the option to build a personal fundraising page on MightyCause. The simple set-up will ask for your photo and bio to kick start your Dream Ride fundraising season. Fundraise (or simply donate if you prefer) to support CalBike’s work to promote healthy, sustainable transportation. EARN & REPORT MILES

Throughout this year’s Dream Ride events, we’ll challenge you to get out and ride your bike, and engage with your bicycle community. During our summer weekend scavenger hunts and the 10-day bike-stravaganza in October, you can earn points by getting out and riding miles on your bike, or take the opportunity to earn extra ‘activity miles’ by tackling bicycle-related challenges and advocacy activities.

Earn miles by riding!

  • Riding is good for you, and our Dream Ride events are designed to get you out and riding your bicycle. Keep track of the miles your ride one of two ways.
  • 1. Use the Strava app to track your miles. Once you’ve finished your ride, please log your miles in the Report Your Miles form (we’ll publish one for each event). Your miles will be updated on the leaderboard at the end of every day during each 2021 Dream Ride event. Once you’ve set up your account, join the CalBike Cycling Club and share stories of your ride.
  • 2. Record your miles manually. At each Dream Ride event this year, we’ll publish a form where you can submit your ride miles.

Earn miles by supporting your community!

  • Show your community some bike love! There are many fun ways to earn credit for ‘activity miles’ that count towards Dream Ride events. Here are just a few examples of how you can earn ‘activity miles’. Be sure to double check the details for your event for even more ways to earn miles:
    • Sign a petition on CalBike.org. 10 miles. Here are the latest.
    • Write a letter to an elected official. 50 miles.
    • Donate money to your local bike advocacy organization (or other bike-friendly community org). 1 mile per dollar up to 100.
