Eddie Gonzalez Wins CalBike’s Bicycle Dreamer Award

Without Eddie Gonzalez, Santa Barbara’s Bici Centro, Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition’s community bike shop and thrift store, would not exist. He was key in bringing together community stakeholders who had common goals: getting more people riding bicycles, and bringing to life the dream of a community bike shop. Bici Centro, founded in 2007, offers Santa Barbara’s bicycling community a place to fix their bikes and learn, with help from on-site mechanics; it offers a wealth of resources for people who ride bicycles, as well as those who want to start. Bici Centro has, thanks to Eddie’s incredible outreach efforts, served a diverse array of Santa Barbarans since its beginnings.

CalBike’s annual Bicycle Dreamer Award goes to a visionary whose achievements have advanced our common dream: that one day soon all Californians will be able to ride bicycles safely and conveniently wherever they wish to go, and that, as a result, all our communities will thrive. We give the award during our annual fundraising ride, the California Dream Ride.
