Santa Monica Bike Advocacy Champion Cynthia Rose Elected CalBike Board Chair
The California Bicycle Coalition Board of Directors elected Cynthia Rose as its chair at its January meeting in San Diego. She is the co-founder of Santa Monica Spoke and a catalyst behind the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition’s local chapter program. She joins Vice Chair Esteban del Río, Treasurer Ian Dewar, and Secretary Dorothy Wong on the Executive Committee.
Ms. Rose has built Santa Monica Spoke into an influential force in Santa Monica politics. SM Spoke played a key role in the creation and implementation of the city’s award-winning Bicycle Action Plan and in designing Los Angeles County’s first bike share system that launched in Santa Monica and helped to establish a model for hybrid docked and dockless bike share programs before most cities had them. The national Alliance for Biking & Walking recognized her dedication with the Susie Stephens Joyful Enthusiasm Award, presented to the nation’s most effective and enthusiastic bike advocate at the 2016 National Bike Summit in Washington, DC. Ms. Rose has served on CalBike’s board since 2013 when she was first appointed as one of three designated representatives of local advocacy organizations to fulfill CalBike’s commitment to diverse and inclusive statewide representation.
