Take Action for Bike Month

BE A BIKE CHAMPION

The transportation sector accounts for 50% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions. We need to take bold action to provide Californians with green mobility options for commuting to work, school, errands, and other essential destinations.

These three campaigns are essential building blocks of our state’s active transportation future. And we need your help.

OUR APPROACH

Join CalBike in asking for $400 million to be restored to the Active Transportation Program in the 2025-26 budget. The ATP funds critical biking and walking infrastructure projects throughout California. It’s our only dedicated source of active transportation funding; there is never enough funding for all the good projects. CalBike calls on our legislators to fully fund the ATP and restore previous funding cuts.

With the money it takes to build just a few linear miles of new freeway, we can build out whole connected, protected bike networks, giving people of all ages safe routes to school, work, shopping, and more. The Bike Highways Bill, AB 954, will authorize a pilot in two cities to complete connected bike networks that will allow more people to choose biking for their everyday transportation.

Quick-build methods can deliver safer streets in weeks or months instead of years. The Quick-Build Bill, AB 891, will bring quick-build to the state routes that serve as local streets in California communities, allowing Caltrans to use fast and inexpensive processes to fix unsafe infrastructure.
