Show Your Organization’s Support for SB 127

Tell Gov. Newsom Your Organization Supports SB 127,

the Complete Streets Bill

Many of you and/or your organizations have already expressed support for SB 127, the Complete Streets for Active Living Bill (thank you!). Getting this policy proposal this far has been a feat in itself.

This bill made it past appropriations committees in the legislature, but the governor still faces resistance from his administration because of Caltrans’ faulty fiscal impact analysis. A letter of support from your organization or a sign-on letter from multiple NGOs will help us convince Governor Newsom that Californians want and need Complete Streets. Links to template letters to get you started are at the bottom of this page.

Complete Streets Bill

Specifically SB 127 will:

  • Require Caltrans to explicitly include complete streets elements in the Transportation Asset Management Plan to better track performance measures and cost estimates.
  • Require Complete Streets to be incorporated on all SHOPP projects that fall on the segments of the State Highway System that fall within the “active transportation place type” – meaning roads that run through the community and serve as main streets. The bill also provides an opt-out clause where it is not feasible to include Complete Streets in a project.
  • Expand the definition of safety improvements in the State Highway Account priorities list to emphasize the importance of projects that reduce fatalities and injuries of vulnerable road users such as people walking and biking.
  • Expand much-needed stakeholder input on existing Project Development Teams already required for each SHOPP project.

If your group supports Complete Streets, now is the time to speak out! You can find a sign-on letter template to ask Governor Newsom’s to sign the Complete Streets Bill here. We also have a template for your organization to submit its own letter. Please email letters to leg.unit@gov.ca.gov, and cc the following: linda@calbike.org, senator.wiener@senate.ca.gov, ronda.paschal@gov.ca.gov, David.S.Kim@calsta.ca.gov, and bob.franzoia@dot.ca.gov.

Thank you for your support of SB 127 for safer streets!
