Ring in the New Year Early at Biketopia, the East Bay Bicycle Coalition’s Winter Party
2013 has been a great year for cyclists – our ranks are growing, funding allocations for safer streets are being increased, and everywhere we look complete streets are encouraging more families to get on their bikes on ride. In the Bay Area, the East Bay Bicycle Coalition is ringing in the New Year early with their annual member party, Biketopia. Biketopia celebrates this past year’s achievements, with an eye towards the work ahead. Most of all, Biketopia is the opportunity to bring together an active and enthusiastic community of bicycle enthusiasts and advocates! The East Bay Bicycle Coalition is a 4,500 member nonprofit bicycle advocacy organization working for safe and enjoyable bicycling for Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
The East Bay Bicycle Coalition was founded in 1972 and between their new Bay Bridge bike path, the Bikes on BART pilot, and miles of new bike lanes throughout the east bay, they’ve got plenty to be thankful for. Green bike lanes were completed in the cities of Oakland, Hayward, Dublin, and Pleasanton and by the end of the year, buffered bike lanes will be striped on streets in Berkeley, Oakland and Pleasanton. In 2014, innovative green bike lanes have planned roll outs in more cities, with advance bike boxes in Berkeley, two-way cycle tracks in Alameda, green bike lanes in Oakland, and buffered bike lanes in San Pablo, Richmond, Dublin and Pleasant Hill. Come share stories of your own campaigns and compare notes on goals and successes as we all move towards safer and more integrated bikeways throughout California.
Buy your ticket today to join East Bay cyclists and California by Bike summit attendees in raising a pint of New Belgium beer to bicycle advocacy in the East Bay and throughout California. In addition to rubbing shoulders with movers and shakers, participate in our fun Bay Bridge themed photo booth and get ready for Christmas via an extensive bike- and experience- packed silent auction. Biketopia’s silent auction features a number of bikes including a Tern Link Uno Bike, a Public Bike and out-of-the-box items such as box tickets to a Michael Buble concert, a backyard BBQ and wine tasting bike rides.
Biketopia will be taking place in a newly renovated 1920’s ballroom one block away from the 12th street BART station. Come dressed to impress! The East Bay Bicycle Coalition will be providing bike valet as well – visit ebbc.org/biketopia for more information.
