“Bike Lobby Day” is now Transportation Equity Summit and Advocacy Day
Our annual Bike Advocacy Day is held this year in conjunction with TransForm with a new focus. The Transportation Equity Summit and Advocacy Day, May 16-17, is a collaboration marking our stronger strategic emphasis on equity — making sure that the benefits of bicycling, and transportation more broadly, extend to everyone in California, by putting the safety and mobility needs of underserved Californians first.
The summit features an address by the Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (invited) and Genoveva Islas, our newest CalBike Board member and Director of Cultiva La Salud from Fresno. Six breakout sessions cover topics such as bicycling and walking advocacy leading with equity; linking good jobs and affordable housing to transportation; funding for equitable transit, walking, and bicycling; and shared mobility, such as bike share and shared car services such as Lyft.
We’ve built in plenty of time for networking and partying, and delicious beer thanks to our friends at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. Thanks also to Bay Area Bicycle Law and Yuba Bicycles for sponsoring the Transportation Equity Summit.
Following the summit and reception, we’ll get a briefing Tuesday on the Transportation Equity Package before converging on the Capitol for meetings with our legislators. Thanks to Dolan Law for sponsoring this key event to communicate with our elected officials. Our set of bills, sponsored by CalBike and many of our statewide partners, is designed to ensure the benefits of our state transportation investments truly serve all Californians with affordable, sustainable transportation options, like bicycling.
